In June, new PlayStation Plus editions will be available.
New Playstation Plus Subscription Service |
Sony is revamping its PlayStation Plus program, adding two new membership tiers, each with its own set of advantages, including the addition of PlayStation Now cloud-streaming and downloaded games, as well as historic titles from the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.
PlayStation Plus will be available at three tiers starting in June: Essential, Extra, and Premium.
The Essential edition will essentially be the same as PlayStation Plus, with two monthly digital games, cloud services, and online multiplayer access.
PlayStation Plus Essential will cost $59.99 per year, which is the current pricing for the subscription.
According to Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation Plus Extra ($99.99 yearly) and Premium ($119.99 annually) would provide members with "a library that will be continually replenished."
Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal will all be available at launch.
Original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP titles, as well as time-limited game trials, will be available to premium tier customers.
No tier provides early access to new titles, as Xbox Game Pass does.
“We feel if we were to do that with the games that we make at PlayStation Studios, [...] the level of investment that we need to make in our studios would not be possible, and we think the knock-on effect on the quality of the games that we make would not be something that gamers want,” Ryan said in an interview with GamesIndustry.
