Valve explains how Steam Deck's quick resume-like dynamic cloud sync works

Valve, the maker of Steam Deck, has disclosed that the console will contain a Dynamic Cloud Sync technology similar to Quick Resume, making it easier for players to transition between devices as needed.

According to Valve, the Steam Deck's Dynamic Cloud Sync would allow users to "seamlessly transition between Deck and PC versions of the game without needing to worry about exiting the game on the Steam Deck," as explained in a blog post on the developer's website.

According to the developer, the capability was put on the console because it expects players to frequently interrupt their gameplay sessions without quitting the game.

Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch quick resume differences

The Nintendo Switch comes closest to this in terms of a handheld, as it allows users to put their system to sleep and then start up right where they left off in-game without having to close the program.

But unlike Switch, the Steam Deck's dynamic architecture expands the feature's utility by allowing gamers to resume their session on their PC.

While the feature will be absolutely free to use, it may not be available in all of your games.

Dynamic Cloud Sync will not be automated, according to Valve, and would instead need game creators to actively enable it on their titles in Steamworks in order for their fanbases to benefit from it.
