What caused Discord's downtime, and when will it be restored? Internal technical difficulties have been reported by the chat service, but they appear to be resolved now.
The Discord server outage
The Discord server outage was originally reported at 11:49 a.m. PST / 2:49 p.m. EST / 7:49 p.m. GMT on the official Discord Status page, with the troubles reportedly coming from a "widespread API unavailability." While Discord attempted to solve the problem, it purposefully limited the number of users who could log in, and the service's most recent status message indicates that it should be back up and running shortly.
The service page noted, "The database is healthy again, and our internal error rate has fallen to nominal levels. We are beginning to raise the login rate limit to allow users to reconnect."
Discord back to normal
API stands for application programming interface, and it's a way to link multiple applications or devices so they may function together. Discord is understandably reticent to share all of the intricacies about how its internal technologies work, but it appears like the kink in the UI has been straightened out, and it's now simply a question of getting Discord back to normal.
