New PS5 website to register for an opportunity to pre-order

Sony has a new official website on PlayStation that allows players to register for an opportunity to pre-order a PS5.

The irony is, Sony claims it has just a "limited quantity," so it's only getting orders from people with an established PSN identity.

Sony has a new official website on PlayStation that allows players to register for an opportunity to pre-order a PS5.

The related link to the US PlayStation website is available here.

Notice that there are no U.K. and AU equivalent pages to date (we will add links if available) – the FAQs page states that "all orders with a non-U.S.

Based address will be canceled." Therefore, it is not worth using the link unless your intended pre-order is expected for a U.S. address.

So it's worth understanding that you're not really pre-ordering a PS5 here – you're only joining a registration program with the opportunity to get an invitation when the time comes to purchase one.

The good news is, that requires a very low commitment to sign up: all you need to do for now is enter your PSN info.

But surprisingly, this is not a totally random lottery.

Sony says its "collection is based on past preferences and behaviors of PlayStation," based on the FAQs.

If you're a PS4 power user, you might be closer to the top of the list, but Sony doesn't say any much about his qualifications.

Even having a Sony invitation isn't a promise you'll get a PS5 – if you get an invite before the pre-order period opens, the invitation will last only for a short time.

The email should have an expiration date for active users on the bid.

Naturally, any valid invitation also has buying limits. Here is what Sony says if you are successful you are entitled to:

  • 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2 DualSense charging stations
  • 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2 Media remotes
  • 2 HD Cameras

That's just how you purchase one directly from Sony – there's no way other stores will have their very own pre-order systems.

This will not, of course, be the only option to get a PS5 on sale.
